A Little History

• grew up in Iron County, Michigan
• undergraduate - Caltech, member of Blacker House
• graduate school - University of Wisconsin at Madison
• work history - now retired
  • Orbiting Astronomical Observatory-2 (1970-1977) (See an OAO-2 photo gallery here)
  • Computer Sciences Corporation (1977-2010), which has since split and merged itself out of business.
  • International Ultraviolet Explorer (1977-1983) (See an IUE photo gallery here)
  • Hubble Space Telescope (1983-2010), where I retired from the position of branch chief for Data Processing and Archiving Services. Here are some photos and stories collected for a celebration of Hubble’s 30th anniversary.
• Family:
  • wife Gail taught ESOL at the University of Marland-Baltimore County and at Howard Community College , but has retired. In a previous career, she supported research in poultry science.
  • son Doug works at National Academies, where he helps identify potential financial supporters
  • daughter CJ is teaching in the New York City public schools while also pursuing her passion in modern dance
  • three terrific grandchildren

• Reading (mysteries, science fiction & history)
• Photographing birds and tropical fish
• Our pet cat Tori, and former pets cat Roy and dog Roxie

  • Treasurer for People Acting Together in Howard (PATH) (2010-2023)
  • Driving for Neighbor Ride to help car-less people get to places they need to be (2016-2020).
