Comments: 12/15/2010 - Made with cherry pie filling and pineapple supreme cake mix for STScI party. I liked it.
12/05/2012 - Made with cherry pie filling, chocolate fudge cake mix and 1.5 stick of butter. Used 1.0 cup of chopped walnuts.
12/08/2014 - Made with 21-oz cherry pie filling, 20-oz crushed pineapple, and pineapple supreme cake mix
2/25/2017 - Made with 21-oz spiced apple pie filling, 20-oz crushed pineapple in pineapple juice, and a Betty Crocker butter recipe yellow cake mix. I used a 9x13 metal pan.
3/29/2018 - Made with cherry pie filling, crushed pineapple, chocolate fudge cake mix and 1.5 stick of butter. The 1.5 cups of chopped walnuts were too much.
7/30/2018 - I used a 21-oz can of blueberry pie filling, a 20-oz can of Dole crushed pineapple, and Duncan Hines Orange Supreme cake mix. I chopped one cup of whole walnuts. I may have accidentally baked it at 450º, but it was OK.
7/30/2018 - I used apple pie filling with Betty Crocker Butter Pecan cake mix. I've never refrigerated the result, but we haven't gotten sick yet.
1/12/2020 - I used cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple with Betty Crocker Super moist yellow cake. It looks like some of the cake mix did not get moistened.
3/4/2020 - I used 2 12-oz cans of raspberry cake and pastry filling with 6 ounces of walnut halves and pieces, 1/2 cup coconut, 20-oz crushed pineapple, and pineapple supreme cake mix. The raspberry filling surprised me because it had the consistency of jelly. I mistakenly put the pineapple down before the raspberry, but it seems to have come out okay.
6/2/2020 - I used apple pie filling, but it was only a 20-ounce can. We are keeping the result in the refrigerator out of fear of ants.
6/17/2020 - I used blueberry filling, crushed pineapple, Betty Crocker Yellow, 1 1/2 sticks of butter, 1 cup chopped walnuts, and 1/2 cut unsweetened flake coconut.
8/24/2020 - I had 20-oz of pineapple tidbits, which I tried to crush with a serving fork. I used a 20-oz can of cherry pie filling, a box of Pillsbury Golden Batter cake mix, and a cup of pecans that I chopped by hand. The pineapple was on the bottom.
9/9/2020 - This was almost identical to the August 24 preparation except I used a can of blueberry pie filling and chopped walnuts.
1/9/2021 - I used apple pie filling, crushed pineapple in heavy syrup, Betty Crocker Butter Recipe Yellow cake mix, and unsweetened coconut. I cut it into 12 pieces, 3 across x 4 long.
10/5/2021 - I used Betty Crocker Yellow Cake mix and strawberry pie filling.
1/24/2022 - I used pecans in place of walnuts and unsweetened flake coconut. The pineapple was in chunks rather than crushed, but I used my chopper to fix that.
10/17/2022 - I used Luck Leaf Blueberry pie filling, Duncan Hines Classic White cake mix, and unsweetened flaked coconut. Something went wrong. The top is very crispy, but the bottom of the cake is barely done.
3/25/2023 - I used cherry pie filling and Pillsbury chocolate cake mix. I only had about 1/4 cup of coconut.
6/10/2023 - I used cherry pie filling, Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix, and added 1/2 cup of Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips on top of the pineapple. After cooking, the crust was hard, probably from the chocolate chips.
