Albert Holm and Bonnie Lawrie at Mount Baldy Village on Mount San Antonio. Because Mount San Antonio is the nearest snow-capped mountain to the Los Angeles basin, it was often called “Mount Baldy”.

Bonnie’s parents, Forest and Edith Lawrie, had been teachers in Iron River, Michigan, until her father died in 1949. Her mother then moved them to Escanaba. After Bonnie graduated from high school, they moved to southern California where her mother married Don Ray. From the Iron River Reporter, Edith Ray learned that a student from Iron River was attending Caltech and she arranged for Bonnie to meet Albert.

Albert dated Bonnie throughout his sophomore, junior, and senior years. At Christmas 1966, he asked her to marry him. Wisely, Bonnie ended the engagement a year and a half later.
