Is or is this not Victor Holm? His name is written on the back, but people who see it say it doesn’t look like him. This photo was sent to me by our Swedish cousin Sixten Svensson in 2000. The writing on the back identifies it as being of Victor Holm. Below this image are comparisons of the subject of this photograph with old photos of Victor Holm and of Frida’s brother Gustaf Sörkvist.

The photographer’s studio was in Grebbestad, which is a village on the coast about 16 miles west of Mo Kyrka.

He is wearing a suit and a janty cap, and holding
pedal bicycle with pneumatic tires. Victor’s name was written on the back in pencil or black ink. Later someone wrote over it with blue ink. The other writing says, “born 12 Jan 1879 in Mo”, “emigrated to Canada in 1909”, and “died 3/11/1967 in Michigan”. The blue pen added “he lived 88 years”. I don’t have a translation for “brodern”, which is crossed out, or “Se anseldel”, although “brodern” is close to “broder”, which means “brother”.

Here are side by side comparisons of the cyclist’s face and two images of Victor Holm.
